Downtown Women for Change is a grassroots organization founded by New York women in 2016. We are committed to preserving and advancing women's rights, mentoring women who choose careers in public policy, and working to elect Democratic women who will fight for legal and accessible abortion.

POLITICAL ACTION

We support

a variety of candidates and women’s organizations with fundraising (our FundHer projects, auctions, social events, educational events, and drives), phone banking, text banking, postcarding, and petitioning.

We advocate

for specific pieces of legislation with Memos of Support, phone and text campaigns, and capital lobbying.

We work

closely with a variety of grassroots groups and coalitions--representing thousands of like-minded activists—coordinating our election and legislation work in order to amplify our voices.

And you can do this, too!

See our CALENDAR FOR POLITICAL ACTION here.

This calendar is regularly updated.

And for the folks who are willing to be out, and willing to speak up, and willing to put their bodies - you know, especially the young people of color - who are willing to go out there and put their bodies at risk to make that statement, and on top of that you know, having amazing allies, white allies, who are willing to put their bodies in front of their friends’ bodies, that is huge. And what I’ve been saying is that now our legislative body needs to put their body in front of black and brown bodies. It’s incredibly ridiculous that we’re not doing what we need to do right now, which is to enact laws that protect people. I think that it’s incredible what young people are willing to do to make a change.
